چکیده

Abstract Background and Aims The relation between inflammation cardiovascular disease is well established. Dialysis patients are at a higher risk of death, mostly attributed to disease. This study evaluated the potential benefits citrate (CD) vs. acetate dialysate (AD) regarding patients’ inflammatory status. Method Single-center, cross-over, prospective study, with follow-up total 24 dialysis sessions, 12 each dialysate. Blood samples were taken on twelfth session type Every patient acted as its own control. pre-dialysis parameters analyzed procalcitonin (PCT), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) interleukin-6 (IL-6). Results Pre-dialysis hsRCP [AD: 4,32 (1,27 – 12,16) CD: 4,08 (0,98 8,65) mg/L, p = 0,031], PCT 0,44 (0,28 0,74) 0,38 (0,29 0,44) ng/mL, 0,037], IL-6 13,7 (7,85 29,03) 11,8 (5 27,13) pg/mL, 0,029] significativly after twelve sessions AD CD. Conclusion Even in medium term, use instead acidifier, reduces measured could therefore be considered more biocompatible option.

Effects of Acetate-Free Citrate Dialysate on Glycoxidation and Lipid Peroxidation Products in Hemodialysis Patients

BACKGROUND/AIMS Previous studies have shown the presence of high levels of glycoxidation and lipid peroxidation products in association with atherosclerosis in patients with end-stage kidney disease. Acetates are commonly used buffer for correcting metabolic acidosis in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Since the toxic effects of acetates are well established, acetate-free citrate dialysate (AFD) has...

Is Anticoagulation Discontinuation Achievable with Citrate Dialysate during HDF Sessions?

Citrate dialysate has been developed for few years to replace acetate and HCl concentrates. In Online Postdilution Hemodiafiltration (OL-POST-HDF), several issues are remaining concerning the possibility of stopping anticoagulation during sessions and the side effects of citrate solutions on calcium metabolism. This 1-year monocentric retrospective study included all patients exposed to citrate...

Acetate free citrate-containing dialysate increase intact-PTH and BAP levels in the patients with low intact-PTH

BACKGROUND Recently, acetate-free citrate containing dialysate (A(-)D) was developed. We have already reported about the significant effect of A(-)D on metabolic acidosis, anemia, and malnutrition in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients. In this study, we compared the effect of A(-)D and acetate containing dialysate (A(+)D) on serum calcium and intact-parathyroid hormone (int-PTH) levels. ...

Acetate Free Biofiltration with Potassium Profiled Dialysate (AFB-K)

Hyperkalaemia is a common, significant electrolyte disorder in uremia. Patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) undergoing haemodialysis (HD) accumulate potassium during the interdialysis period, and clearance of this potassium is one of the functions of haemodialysis. A sudden decrease in blood potassium levels during haemodialysis can induce or worsen arrhythmias, (Cupisti et al., 1999) part...

Spirometric Parameters: Hemodialysis Compared to Peritoneal Dialysis

Introduction: Renal failure affects the mechanical and the ventilatory function of the lungs. A few studies have evaluated the ventilatory and pulmonary function in dialysis patients. The present study aimed to compare Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) results in patients undergoing Hemodialysis (HD) and Peritoneal Dialysis (PD). Materials and Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study on 50  pa...
